Jon Schwind

Small Town Origins.

Jon Schwind is a native of Hilton, NY. A small farm town in Western New York. His hard working family guided his path into college atheltics and ultimately professional baseball. Above all, his small town roots taught him to love people. Off the Grid’s purpose is to love and serve people at all costs. Jon has been awarded the Pittsburgh Pirates Community Commitment Award 4 times and continues to be the annual host of Miracle League/Challenger Baseball Spring Training @ Salmon Creek CC.

BA in Psychology

Jon attended Marist College on a scholarship to play Division I Baseball. Originally a Psychology/Special Education Major at Marist College, Jon switched his major once in professional baseball in order to graduate. He attributes his experience in teaching to this and substitute teaching for many years. Understanding how the brain and body work for each individual are his focal points when instructing.

Professional Baseball Player.

Jon was a 41st Round Draft Pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2011 MLB Draft. He enjoyed a 7 year career in the organization with over 1000 plate appearances spanning Rookie level to AAA. He played 7 of the 9 positions in professional baseball and was named the 1st Captain in Altoona Curve (AA) history.

College Baseball Coach.

Jon is the Associate Head Coach at SUNY Brockport and has helped there since 2015. He has aided in multiple facets of the game and currently provides recruiting assistance for the team. He has also helped various colleges in the Western NY Region.

Professional Baseball Coach.

Jon was a First Base Coach and Outfield Coach for the West Virginia Black Bears (Short Season A) of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017. He led postgame meetings and organized in game strategy for outfielders.

He then became the Third Base Coach and Assistant Hitting Coach for the Indianapolis Indians (AAA) of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019. He trained many Major League players and aided in players’ progress throughout the season.

During the 2019 MLB All-Star Break, Jon was chosen as the pitcher for Pirates All-Star Josh Bell in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.

Professional Instructor/Consultant.

Jon has taught for over 3000 hours of private instruction and has trained athletes from ages 7 to 42. He continues to train multiple professional baseball players, work with facilities around the country, and is excited to continue consulting more.
